Last months 'East of Ibiza' party with Jason Bye broke records at the club.........and for a venue which is full to the rafters every weekend that's some statement!
Built around the promise to bring you guys the superstars of the white isle, direct to Shoreditch on a monthly basis it really seems to have caught the imagination of the Cargo crowd as we head into the summer months
For the next installment of East of Ibiza, Cargo is very proud to welcome ......(Drum Roll) SMOKIN JO to the main arch!
Smokin Jo:
Jo began her musical career in 1990 when, noticing a lack of female DJ's on the dance music scene she bought her own set of decks and started mixing herself. After continued practice, and receiving positive feedback from her mix tapes, she embarked on a musical journey that has taken her to the four corners of the globe. Her cutting edge style and impeccable taste in music has made sure that Jo is always classed amongst the top name DJ's. She is still the only female DJ to have won DJ Magazine's prestigious DJ of the Year award. Smokin Jo's talent behind the decks and fearless risk taking in her mixing has made sure her CV contains most major clubs throughout the world. Womb in Tokyo, Panorama Bar in Berlin, Made/ Warung in Brazil, Cavo Paradiso in Mykonos, Crobar in New York, Space in Ibiza & Miami, Vinyl in New York, Zouk in Singapore, Fabric in London and Cocoon in Frankfurt to name a few. She is one of the residents for We Love.. Sundays at Space in Ibiza. Jo has played most styles of music over the years from Soulful Deep House through to Tribal, but it's Deep House, Tech House and Techno that now race through her sets. Her shows never fail to impress, containing new and exciting material at every turn. Jo's productions are few and far between due to her demanding DJ schedule but Jo is now taking the time out to make her own tracks with releases out on 2000 and One's label Area Remote. Jo has also been in the studio with Nicole Moudaber producing tracks to be released on Yellow Tail. Her older production, State of Mind, was championed on Radio 1 and released on Distrakt Records. Other releases include Yanu, The Psycho Bitch EP and collaboration with Peter Heller, Fishbone Sleepers. Not only is Jo a DJ/Producer but she has also graced many of the fashion worlds top magazines including Elle, Glamour, Esquire, Interview and Cosmopolitan as well as all the music magazines. She has also been featured in reputable publications such as The Sunday Times, The Telegraph Magazine and The Independent.
Support on the night comes from the brilliant Guy Williams....
Guy has been gracing the decks for over 17 years and is a versatile Dj/Producer , beginning his DJ career in Manchester in 1993. He has held residencies at some of the most famous UK Clubs including, Ministry Of Sound, Turnmills, Vague, Trade, DTPM,and many more. He has toured over the world taking in USA,Japan, Thailand,France, Germany,Spain,Switzerland, Poland,Russia, and South America. Guy has been producing for over 10 years now and has had releases on Southeast Recordings, DTPM Records,Housework, Egoiste, Pop pop Records, Baker Street Recordings & remixed for EMI, Independiente, Sony, Wall Of Sound and Polydor. His own party, Black Rabbit, that he co promotes with Bones & Kelly Love has been taking London by storm for over 4 years now and also holds residencies at Brighton, Yello in Belfast and last summer held a residency at We Love Space in Ibiza and in 2008 he also made his debut at the infamous Manumission. Guy started Paradise 45 (also the name for Guy and Thomas Gandeys music project) as a Future disco/italo/80's night just over a year ago and it now holds residencies in London and Ibiza and has had guest such as Faze Action/Severino/Pete Herbert/Serge Santiago/Sophie Lloyd and more grace the decks. Late last year Guy released the tech house stomper 'Like That' on Baker Street Recordings and had great reactions and support from Dj's and good reviews across the board. An earlier release 'Take No Prisoners' released on Tom Neville's label Love Minus Zero was supported by Pete Tong on Radio 1 and featured as one of his 'Big Three' . As Paradise 45 Guy and Thomas Gandey have remixed Grace Jones and Temper Trap with more remixes and original material on the way
Along with tech house faves Prok & Fitch Guy released 'Yalla' on Roger Sanchez's label Stealth which garnered strong support on the tech house floors. More recently Guy has teamed up with DRW -Dan Williams and under the name The Shack they have signed their debut Ep of 'Shackhouse disco' ''Touch It' to Faze Action Records already getting great reactions from promo this is due for a release in April 2011 and The Shack are now working on the follow up so watch this space!
