2008 is not even 2 months old and yet for Turmills’s flagship Saturday night event Together, the New Year has already produced some of the best moments in the clubs history. From the epic NYE session with 2manydjs, Mylo and Simian Mobile Disco, to our sell-out Free Members Party on 5 January and then the big ol’ Birthday bash at the end of Jan... one might say it’s been hotter than playing for Tottenham Hotspur on the hottest day of the year out in Hot-stralia. To cool things down a little, but keeping the dancefloor intensity intact, Together presents “The Arctic Disco” on Saturday 23rd February, as we team up with our mates at Snowbombing for the penultimate Together party at Turnmills (how very sad).
Together will be going on the piste in Mayrhofen, Austria between 31 March – 6 April, as we hit the slopes of Snowbombing 2008 for a spot of snowboarding, Jagermeister shots and the odd snowball fight!! We’ll also be hosting our very own Together Arena for the first time out there, and we’ll be flying out our beloved residents Justin Robertson, Streetlife DJs and Anil Chawla plus a big bag of fancy dress goodies to bring on the party good n’ proper!! But back to London now and this next essential Together a little closer to home. Together 1 plays host to the big guns with The Glimmers, Green Velvet and SebastiAn joining Justin and Anil in a billing which is like a techno man’s wet dream. In an exclusive coup for Together, Belgium boys The Glimmers are in town for the Official UK Launch Party for their new artist album. Now here’s the thing... The Glimmers have gone it alone for the release of ‘Gee Gee Fazzi’, by this we mean Ghent’s finest are no longer working with a record label, but instead collaborating with all the venues they DJ at around the world, offering the new CD for FREE to every clubber who come to the parties they play at. Pretty clever huh?! Therefore, Together is delighted to host this exclusive UK Launch party, which means that EVERYONE who comes down this month will each get a FREE copy of The Glimmer’s ‘Gee Gee Fazzi’, so... GET DOWN EARLY!! Joining The Glimmers will be techno pioneer Green Velvet aka Cajmere who jets in for another unmissable date at Turnmills. Since appearing at Together twice in 2007, GV has won our hearts over with his slick-deep techno tones, his infamous ‘La La Land’ PA’s and his stunning collection of ties - he always loves to dress up for the occasion!! Next up is another international superstar in the shape of Frenchmen SebastiAn. The Ed Banger artist made his name with the epic ‘Ross Ross Ross’ EP back in 2006 and has since remixed some heavy talent including Daft Punk, Cut Copy, Uffie, Annie and Kelis. He also supported Daft Punk on their incredible ‘Alive’ worldwide tour and he debuted at Together at our infamous Halloween party in October. Such was his impact that night, we simply had to get him back right away, and so here then is SebastiAn’s first set of the year at Together, as he makes the jump to the main room. Watch out, he’s gonna tear it up!! Completing this formidable line-up will be our acid house squadron Justin Robertson and Anil Chawla, making sure the Together faithful are heavily dosed up on the electronic sounds of the future.
Over in Together 2, we hand over the baton (or should that be toboggan?) to our incredible backroom residents the Streetlife DJs who’ll be dropping an avalanche of dancefloor bombs to keep the floor firing. The Streetlife DJs blew the club apart on NYE with their 3 Hour T2 set and main room mash up before 2manydjs (the DJs they’re compared too the most) and then again at the Free Members Party in Jan. Anyone who heard their recent Radio 1 Essential Mix will testify to what groundbreaking and original talents they are. Pete Tong described their mix as “Genre defying... if you think Soulwax meets Sasha meets Coldcut you’re sort of in the right area, spellbinding!” Nuff said really. For their next Streetlife Sessions they welcome two of the scene’s hottest new names in Kavinsky and Tepr. Kavinsky is the car-obsessive cool cat from Ed Banger with the 80s cartoon look!! He’s produced some of the craziest tunes in recent times including ‘Testarossa Autodrive’ and the ‘1986’ EP and he’ll undoubtedly smash up the intimate T2 space at Together this month, just like fellow Ed Banger SebastiAn last time round! Fellow guest Tepr is the hotly-tipped DJ/Producer who released ‘En Direct De La Cote’ on Wall of Sound in September 07 and has since remixed the likes of The Teenagers, Yelle and Infadels. The Frenchmen is definitely a name to watch out for in 2008, and he’ll be playing a LIVE set on the night. Together regulars Audio Jackers - label honcho’s for Jack Digitals return to set the night on its merry way.
If you wanna show off your Eskimo outfit or swanky new white spandex trousers then head on over to Together 3, where Snowbombing 2008 will be laying down an ice-cool mix of party hip hop, reggae, disco, funk, dancehall, Baltimore rave and bassline electro. Snowbombing’s annual jaunt to Austria is best summed up by Annie Mac who says “if you’ve ever been to Bestival or Glastonbury, it’s kind of like that but in the mountains!!” And for one night only the Snowbombing massive will be descending upon Turnmills to bring the ruckus!! Snowbombing hosts and all-round legends The Cuban Brothers will be bringing their good-time-vibes to Together, returning after an 18 month gap. These guys are the funniest f**kers on the planet and their live show will make you piss your pants and bounce in the air all at the same time!! Expect body-popping, nudity and the sickest party sounds around for their first UK Date of 2008!! Joining them will be Together favourites The Nextmen feat. MC Wrec who return for their first London block-party-set of 2008 and will no doubt add their own much loved hands-in-the-air mixathon to the night’s proceedings – don’t miss ‘em!! Representing the nu-skool will be hugely talented Toddla T and Martelo. You’ve probably seen Toddla T’s pic with a couple of birds on his arm by now, but it’s his genre smash-ups that are causing a major stir with his unique take on dancehall, combined with warehouse bleeps and ghetto crunk! Check out ‘Do U Know’ on 1965 Records and his essential Ghettoblaster mixtape available to download from his Myspace. Martelo is another big new name for 2008. He caught Together’s eye at Modular’s Xmas party in December and has been creating mayhem wherever he plays. Expect a similar mash-up style, leaning more towards the disco and bassline side of the 4/4 beat. Completing this mega Room 3 billing are the hip-hop specialists Ill Commotion DJs, who debuted so brilliantly back in October and Snowbombing resident and line-up curator Marc Roberts. We also welcome the Slumdrum crew to Together 6 as they host the Anexo Bar, dropping the finest cuts of house n’ garage, jungle, dubstep, bassline, hip hop and everything else in between. Past guests at their parties include the Cocknbull Kid, Goldielocks and Teens of Thailand, so they know their stuff. DJs include The Suicidedogz Soundsystem, The Bumps, Brothers Grimm, Joe Alexander and G.Luis. Check it out.
Right then... onto the silly stuff!! With it being the ‘Arctic Disco party’ and all that, the (optional) FANCY DRESS CODE naturally keeps in theme as we say It’ll be ALL WHITE on the night!! So, think WHITE CLOTHING – and you’ll be ok!! Other ideas include Eskimos, Penguins, Polar Bears, Vanilla Ice, Eddy ‘The Evil’ Edwards, Disco Pimps, Apres Ski Chic or 70s glam with an Arctic Twist!! As ever we’ve got lots of funky prizes up for grabs for the best dressed! Over in Together 4 aka The Chill(y) Zone, we’ve got a bunch of movies to show on the big screen dedicated to all things ‘ARCTIC’ and ‘DISCO’. So put your feet up as we show everything from The Thing and Cliffhanger to Boogie Nights and Cool Runnings... err, cos we love it!! Finally, upstairs in Together 5 aka The Arctic Disco the Together All-Stars create their monthly fix of fun as DJs The Scarlet Pimp, Mannequin Doll, 10:4 Rubber Duckie, Nikolas Esselle and Fisk spin a polar-sized mix of party bangers!! As a special Snowbombing treat, The Cuban Brothers’ legendary DJ Russ Cuban will also be flexing his disco grooves up with the All-Stars, so don’t miss that! Also on the menu we’ve got a Giant Igloo to come and play with, plus Free Penguins, Free Arctic Roll, Free magic Ice Pops AND (get this...) exclusive Mr Frosty and Percy Penguin’s Together treats!!
Those in the know, will have guessed that we’ve take our name this month from Snowbombing’s own ‘Arctic Disco’ – which is the legendary 150 capacity giant igloo set 2000 metres up Ahorn mountain in Austria. Their Arctic Disco is the craziest party to attend during Snowbombing and comes complete with a killer Funktion One Soundsystem to boot!!
