With Homelands taking place tomorrow, I guess you could say that the summer is officially here – well, almost!! Not ones to rest on their laurels, The Gallery have put together another incredible line-up on Friday 28th May that will keep the die-hard faithful rocking well into Saturday morning. It’s also a Bank Holiday weekend, which means you can party even harder, cos there’s no work for anyone on Monday!! Touch.
So, with that in mind a 3 hour set from Radio 1 top dude Pete Tong is a very welcome one indeed. Tongy doesn’t DJ too much these days, so when he does it’s always a very interesting experience. I mean let’s be honest, the man gets sent more records, CD-R’s and MP3’s than probably any other figure in the music industry. Choosing which tunes to play in a set must be a nightmare for him (?!)… so the challenge of a 3 hour set is likely to be music to his ears. It’s very hard to pigeon-hole Pete’s style, moreover he encompasses a bit of everything to make his sets truly unique. Joining Pete this Friday will be another highly-talented DJ and former Turnmills resident Tom Stephan. The Gallery was of course home to his legendary Chumbo Mundo backroom party and he later went on to be the host and resident for monthly Saturday nighter Roach. His pounding, tribal sound has brought him fans across the globe and this will be a special return for the Superchumbo don as he plays the midnight set. The main room’s third headline guest is the Spanish based DJ Christian Varela. This 4 deck wizard will be making his Gallery debut on the night and having released some amazing techno for top labels Primate, Session and Highland Beats, it’s no wonder he’s one of the most highly rated Techno DJ/Producers on the circuit at present. Gallery resident Alex Anderson also takes his turn behind the decks after a recent DJ trip to Iceland and this week’s warm up the Refresh DJs, will be given the task of getting the crowd going ready for Mr.Stephan.
Although The Gallery is world famous for its open minded crowd and globe-beating line-ups, this Friday night institution is also home to some of the coolest backroom parties in town. One of those said parties is Soundworx – a tribal-loving bunch, who love to get deep, down and dirty on the dancefloor!! With resident Kev ‘KGB’ Bird at the helm, the night is always in good hands. With the additional special guests Steve Mac and Savers joining the fun… well, you’re set for one of those classic off the wall nights at Turnmills!! Steve Mac has recently teamed up with the Mutiny boys Rob Davey and Dylan Barnes to form The Show. Their first track ‘The Party’ is already huge with the likes of Tongy and Darren Emerson, whilst Steve on his own has reworked countless top tunes and produced some truly storming productions. As a DJ, this ex-Rhythm Master is as fresh as they come, mixing up acid-tinged basslines with tech-beats and twisted vocals. Savers aka Damian Wilson and Hugh Owen are also lovers of the twisted house variety!! They both work as Producers on Radio 1 with main room guest Pete Tong and they also spend their time spinning at London night Type with Seb Fontaine. Top guests, top night, no work on Monday!! Bring it on…
