Convergence - Hotter than Hell !

Converge (verb): To move towards a place from different directions and meet to form a large crowd; to move towards each other and meet at a point.
Convergence (the event): As above and then some, with lasers, bangin’ tunes, the brightest clobber, the best DJ’s and the bounciest, most beautiful ravers in London!
Sun is shining, weather is sweet, yeah...and after a long, lazy day of lapping up the UV rays we sure did want to move these dancing feet!! So at 9.30 we step out of Brixton Station into the relative cool of the evening and head off to the nearest pub for a few pre-rave warm-up drinks. By 10.30 everyone’s arrived, were all sorted and ready to go. Ok, so we’ve missed the first half an hour, but the Fridge never really gets going until about 11... right??
Wrong, wrong, wrong!! Our survey says... ER-ER!! As soon as we’re through the doors we're hit smack in the face by full-on madness! Steve Hill’s throwing down the kind of Euphoric Hard Trance tunes that even make phrases like ‘world-changing, brain-melting, life-affirmingly excellent’ seem like the depths of understatement, and an already packed dancefloor is stomping like an annual International All-Comers Bug-Crushing Ball...
After possibly the quickest check-in at the cloakroom in recent history, we’re back downstairs again (upstairs was closed until later on – guess they wanted to keep us all caged in together to make the place truly Frantic!) to soak up the last of Hill’s hyper-trance before Spencer Freeland kicks in with an all-out Hard House aural assault – COME ON!!! Looking around the place, I’ve never seen so much whiteness outside a dentist’s waiting room. Already happy faces are now stretched into the kind of grins that threaten self-inflicted decapitation at any moment. The stage is shuddering under a hundred pounding feet and horns blowing, hands waving, DANCEFLOOR HAPPY!
Next up is Paul Glazby to take us down a step but still keeping us in Hard House heaven. Upstairs is open so we take a walk about to check it all out and search for those elusive cool spots. Yep, just as Camden Palace had finally sorted their air-conditioning for Unity, now the Fridge’s has well and truly gone kaput. The balcony’s just as packed as downstairs and with twice the sauna effect. There’s a few people dancing but mostly everyone’s just chilling –the right side, the only relatively cool place in the club, is a carpet of legs, bodies and day-glo.
Back down again for the close of Glazby’s set and a special Bunny-Bounce to I’m Your Nightmare, a truly top-notch song that gets everyone jerking like it’s electricity they’re breathing instead of air. Sadly no Beautiful, but then that’s just me being greedy!
Phil Reynolds starts hurling the Hard House out of his decks with the kind of intensity I reserve for squashing unexpected spiders in the bath and I’m thinking ‘Can this dancefloor possibly get more mental??’ Then the tunes pick up more and more, the beats are coming thick and fast, the sweats flying and just one look in anyone’s eyes tells you you’re all sharing the same thought: You never want this to end. Then it’s the finally song in Reynold’s set and just in case there was the smallest doubt you knew who was up next, Revolution’s dropped like an atom bomb, the place goes into a frenzy and the crowd comes together as one.
From now on there’s no going back, BK delivers the goods x10 and everyone is screaming, stomping and shaking like it’s their last night on earth! It’s nothing but wall-to-wall floor-fillers although by this point all noble ideas of making detailed notes were space-bound as this Bunny was pounding floorboards like she’d OD’d on the Duracell!! After a little teasing and a final, fabulous encore (ONE MORE!! BBEEEEEKAAAAYY!! ONE MORE!! – think BK realised he wasn’t gonna get out of this alive unless a final track was played! it’s all over and we stumble out, dazed and delirious from the hottest night of the year, straight into the hottest day...
So a big, beautiful thanks to everyone at Frantic for bringing us one of the best nights so far, to the DJ’s for giving us the best tunes and to all the Disco Diamonds who helped fill the Fridge with the friendliest vibe around – you know who you are you nutters!!!
Next Frantic event is Hard House Academy on 10th August.
