Who was the Boss ?? The result

Reported by Robert Muir / Submitted 17-11-02 20:04

The scene was set, two of the biggest record labels in the UK were to battle it out against each other in a battle of the Bosses. In the blue corner was the undisputed champion of the hard dance scene, The Real Deal, Mr Ed Real coming from Portsmouth City. In the red corner coming from destinations unknown, but with a brilliant RECORD in more ways than one, Billy Daniel Bunter. In my eyes this was gonna be a toe to toe, pound for pound, battle to the end – the bell was yet to be sounded but the tension was building into a frenzy in the larger than normal venue. The crowd was clapping and cheering as Jody Osman left the stage, he’d warmed up the crowd well and every one was ready for the main event.

Jody Osman
Ed Real (Round One) Nukleuz
Billy “Daniel” Bunter (Round Two) Honeypot Records
Ed Real Vs Billy “Daniel” Bunter (Round Three)

Lets get READY TO RUUUUUMBLEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!! Ed Real came out first and he wasn’t going to take any prisoners, he threw on the first opener that took the wind from the crowd straight away and he didn’t finish there, he just played tune after tune which the crowd just lapt up like starving cats. You can always count on Ed to perform (as you all well know!) - his mixing and the tunes he played were perfect. The Bunter had a lot to take on when he took the reins from Ed. It was round two and it was Billy Bunter’s turn to show us what he was all about. You could tell this was going to be an even battle, as soon as the first mix was done it was seamless and that was how the whole set was going to be – yet again, tune after tune and quality mixing throughout. The feed back from the crowd was astonishing with people really going for it – the clubs surrounding the pier should be worrying as the tank only gets better and better each month.

The venue also had Annie Nightingale from Radio One playing in room 2, she played alternative dance music (usual to her radio slot on Sunday mornings) – not to my taste, but hey each to their own as the crowds were swapping from room to room anyhow. My feet were stuck in room one, it was like I had an electric tag on, as every time I tried to venture around the club, a tune would suck me back in. It was time for round three, it was the final round as both DJ’s took to the stage and squared up to each other – it was time for the back to back session. Ed threw the first one down and Bunter had to be ready for his one, the pair worked well together and seemed to be just THE one up there. Again tunes rinsed through the 20K system – for the club it’s perfect.

As I've reported before the clubs decoration is quality and speaking to the guy who puts it all together (Steve White) he spends all day with a small team turning the place from a near dungeon to an all colour prop experience. I've got to say have you ever been to a club that the promoters bought the first round? That’s 1200 people – I've never in my time and its good to see promoters give something back sometimes! It was time to score the performances as they were both were still standing. I’ve got to say it, and its not a Don King style fix (mind you I’m always up for a bribe) it had to be a draw as both out performed each other– the crowd looked like they’d done twelve rounds with Mike Tyson though – you crazy cats. Any way this is Robert Muir signing off from South Parade Pier – Peace Out
