Lashed preview with the magnificent Amber D!

Reported by benz / Submitted 05-10-04 21:13

Amber D has risen to the upper ranks of the hard dance scene in next to no time, thanks to her invigorating mix of uplifting, melodic hard house. She is signed to Tidy Management, and has been causing a storm with her powerful sets up and down the country. But what makes her tick? And how did she get the position she is in today? We caught up with the lady in question in preparation for her appearence at Lashed at Heaven on November 5th ...

You are widely regarded as being one of the hottest recent breakthroughs in the hard dance scene. How did this come about?

Well I gave a CD to Amo from the Tidy Boys at the Tidy Weekender 3 after I had played in the top room for coming 2nd in the Tidy Board DJ Competition. He listened to it, Lee Haslam listened to it and so did Mark Foster, and they asked me to come in for a meeting!

What/when was your introduction to hard dance?

When I was about 19 I started getting more into hard dance over the predictable RnB and garage type bars and clubs. Then from there, I have never looked back!

If there was one period in clubbing history that you could go back to in a time machine, when would it be?

To get to see Tony De Vit DJing, which sadly I never did.

Who are your favourite DJs outside of the hard dance scene?

Tony Blackburn’s quite dishy. Him and Jimmy Saville naked except for bow-ties would be good. With me, just watching.

Very twisted! You are playing at Lashed on November 5th - is this a big one for you?

It certainly is! I can't wait!

Amber D & Caroline Banx @ Frantic vs Sundissential @ Camden Palace, 15/11/03

Does Lashed stand out from other events for you? Why?

Lashes is one of my favourite hard dance DJs so to get to play at her event means the world to me.

What is your favourite club venue?

There’s a few : My residency Storm @ The Emporium, Dance Academy in Plymouth and Garlands because of all the beautiful people!

What has been your most enjoyable event of the year?

Probably playing in South Africa in Cape Town. I want to live there now its so cool there.

Do you drive? If so, what’s you dream car?

Yeah I have a Peugeot 307cc but if I could have my dream car it would be a Mclaren F1 the road version. I think there’s a 5 year waiting list for it though! Not to mention it costing about quarter of a mil!

I hear you have completed your first forays into the world of production…

Indeed. Been in the studio with Ingo, Colin Barratt, Lee Pasch, Maddox and Ben Kaye. Look out for some stuff out soon!

Where do you buy your records from?

Everywhere! Bangingtunes.com is my fave though. I do pop to Passion Records sometimes and Hard To Find Records too.

What’s your favourite country or city in the world, apart from the UK?

Las Vegas! Never been there, but I'm sure I’d love it!

What are your 3 big goals that you have yet to achieve?

1) Engineering tracks for other DJ’s 2) Learn Spanish 3) Become Prime minister.

Being a “hard dance sex symbol”, you must receive quite a lot of male attention - do they ever get a bit annoying or scary?!

I don’t get that much male attention at all – Any that I do get is very flattering! I don’t take compliments very easily so I just get embarrassed.

was the last tune that made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up?

Turbulance System – Osaris. A track by Lee Pasch and Ingo.
