Tasty Loves Muzik - we love Lisa London!

Reported by K8-e / Submitted 06-02-06 12:04

Lisa London is a name that will be familiar to most HarderFasterers as a regular poster on the boards and someone who always seems to win praise for her demos from the clubbers. With so much positive feedback, two residencies in the bag and all from only mixing a relatively short space of time I was impressed to see Lisa on the Tasty Love Muzik line up (at Hidden Friday 17th Feb). Given that I didn't know much about Lisa I figured this would be a good opportunity to put a few questions to the lovely lady herself.

Lisa this if your first Harderfaster interview so let’s start at the beginning, you haven’t been mixing that long, how did you get into clubbing and dj’ing?

I first seriously became involved in clubbing about 3 years ago when I started to dance for EZDuzzit and Smile at Bagleys(Canvas). I was inquisitive then about having a go on the decks, but never did til March 2004 when I asked my boyfriend, Paul K, to have a go. I only practised once a week on his decks as I didn't have any myself then. It didn’t take long before I started to play out, October that same year for EZDuzzit/HecticUK. Thanx to Tony Duzzit for giving me the opportunity and Vince Passion of Kinky U, my latest residency for pushing me even more. I have a lot to be thankful for. It is so exciting.

I’m assuming the “London” in your name, to distinguish you from the other rather well-known Lisa djs out there is in reference to you playing/living in London but is there more of a story?

Well, Lisa is my real name and I needed a strong, solid name that stood out as there are a lot of Lisas with strong names too... Tony Duzzit actually came up with the name so I have him to thank for that. I take my dj'ing very seriously and if I ever play internationally, my name says it all and it is kind of like a representation of where I come from.

You are resident for EZDuzzit, Hectic UK and Kinky U and have played at some pretty impressive parties, what’s been your most memorable gig to date and why?

To be honest, all of the sets I have played are equally as enjoyable and memorable as the next. I am pretty lucky to have played where I have in the short space of time I have played out. I am very appreciative of that.

Given you play across a variety of styles what can people expect from a Lisa London set? Do you have a favourite style?

I actually do not have a favourite. I love it all and I'll have a go at everything. Variety is the spice of life as they say. The kind of set you can expect from myself would be very energetic and driving. A bit of trance and bounce. I may put a classic in there too, that goes down well. Oh and I also think you have to have an element of filth in there too. hehe. Taking the clubbing on a journey is also very important. I end up taking myself on a journey!

What’s in your box?

Well I have my tools obviously, earphones, needles, slip-mats and my earplugs. Tunage wise, I have a bit of everything. Chunky funky house, hard dance and trance. Also some classics. You can’t go wrong with that.

Do you have any plans for production in the pipeline? Who are your top producers?

I do have plans for production this year hopefully. I can’t wait. I have sooo many ideas buzzin round in my head. If I had to pick top producers, which is really hard coz there is a lot of talent out there, it would have to be Rowland & Wright and Technikal.

If you could put together your ultimate line up for a night who would it consist of and why? And of course where would it be?

Wow, there are so many djs I haven’t had the pleasure to hear yet either. Well my line-up would consist of Paul Glazby, Billy Bunter, Greg Brookman, Kevin Energy, K90, Justin Bourne, Lisa Pin-up and The *Ting*. Venue wise, that’s difficult... there are a lot of nice ones too. I think it would have to be Hidden. That club has a lot of potential in my opinion.

Speaking of Hidden, you are making your debut for Tasty loves Muzik as they move to a new home on 17th Feb. Whose set are you most looking forward to catching on the night?

I am looking forward to all of them to be honest. There is a lot of good djs in the line-up. I must admit though I haven’t heard Kutski so that should be interesting. Also Billy’s, he never fails to impress.

What sort of set will you be playing and can you share any tunes you’ve got in store for the Tasty Massive?

I can’t wait to play my debut set for Tasty. I can’t believe I’m playing!! Hehe. The atmosphere is going to be mind blowing and you have gotta be mad to miss it. The kinda set I’ll be playing will be fairly well paced hard-trance/dance with a lot of drive and bounce. I may also put the odd classic in there too. A bit of everything really. I can’t really tell you
exactly what tunes I’m gonna play coz I never plan my sets and I like to have the element of suprise.

What do you get up to in your spare time?

I get up to all sorts... I run about 4-5 miles a day 4 or 5 times a week. Everyone I know thinks I’m a right nutter when I do this. I’m not really suprised tho. I also am a backing singer for local rock bands. I have always been involved in music all my life. I am a model too but that has really phased out a lot in the last year since dj'ing. The rest of the time obviously I’m promoting myself, mixing and learning.

Finally, if we see you looking thirsty behind the decks what’s your favourite tipple?

Well that would be a vodka and coke, cheers!!!
