A new breed of management

Reported by Breed Management / Submitted 07-02-07 22:38

There are so many DJ agencies out there who offer the bedroom DJ the chance to get out and play to the masses. However, as we all know, they’re not really worth your time or hard earned money. You hand over £100 for a page on their website, to be included in their emails and may not end up with any gigs at all.

Breed Management however is something different. With their industry contacts, they’ve put together an impressive collection of new breed DJs who have been rocking clubs up and down the country and are ready to impose themselves on the unsuspecting public.

So firstly, a brief background of Iain and Mike who run Breed.

Iain: I’m 27 and have been a DJ for 10 years, mainly playing hard house and trance but now enjoying electro and funky house too. I’m also the promoter of an electro/funky night called Funky Mothas and help run Blessed, which is Mike’s baby.

Mike: I like babies — I could try artificial inseminatio. Would you like to father it Iain? Coming from the old skool days of hardcore I’ve been in the dance industry since 1991 where I was an MC at such brands as Dreamscape, Diehard, Helter-Skelter, Hyperbolic, Equinox/Milwaukee’s & Evolution. Switching from hardcore in late 1997 and turning into a hard house junky was a massive step, but with the way hardcore was going at that stage it was the best move for me and my preferences.

Iain: I do worry about you sometimes Mike!!!

How has Breed Management come about?

Iain: I started an agency last year called Elite One which was going really well but then I became ill, so needed a helping hand running things. Mike is someone who has helped me a lot so I decided to ask Mike to join, the name change soon followed and so did more DJs!! (Thanks Mike!!)

Mike: Aww shucks — I just managed to pull a few strings and offer DJs better conditions and deals that were flexible for both Breed and the artists! Having dealt with agencies over the years I know how hard it can be and the way you can be treated as a ‘customer’. Breed intends doing the opposite and treating all our ‘clients’ the way they deserve to be treated.

Iain & Mike

What are your aims? Where do you see Breed going?

Iain: As far as we can go to be honest. I’m hoping that we can compete with some of the other agencies and deliver the best nu Breed and also established djs in the country. My aim is to give people what they want to hear and give promoters the quality they want for their nights.

Mike: I’d like to see Breed at the forefront of agencies. That might or might not happen, but by all means we’ll give it one hell of a go!

What makes you different from other artist management agencies?

Iain: I’d say the people we have got on our books, as 90% of our Roster DJs are also producers and believe me they are all showmen/women. We believe in giving promoters the best up and coming DJs and producers so that they get quality for money.

Mike: I have to agree with Iain. People will look at our roster and think “who the hell is that?” Most of our DJs are producers at the moment and are really helping the scene in more ways than one… which deserves respect for a start.

Who’ve you got on your books?

Iain: Where do I start?? Firstly we have Carl Nicholson, GRH, Scott Fo Shaw, Chris Shaw, Gavin McFarlane, Ajay, Neil the Pornstar, Audio Hedz, DJ Lusty, DJ Eyeball, Clare McLaren and Iridium. I think that’s it, but we have two more to come I think.

Mike: What he said!

What can you offer promotions? Why should they choose your artists?

Iain: We offer quality music, friendliness and above all, true professionalism from the start of our working relationship with any promoter.

Iain: As I said earlier, I believe that because most of our DJs are also producers, they play the freshest sounds and also they are more adaptable than other DJs. They are all performers and are very versatile too. I’m biased because they are our DJs, but to be honest I let their music do the talking.

Mike: Professionalism, equal treatment and great artists!

Do you have any events lined up to showcase your roster?

Iain: Well we have already had some of our guys out and about, But I guess you could say the big one is 17th Feb, when Breed are supporting Blessed and Deprivation at a night in Kettering at the Voltz. We have JP & Jukesy playing as well as eight of our DJs. Then we have XStatic on the 24th Feb when Breed are hosting a room for the black and white party, It’s Mike’s birthday and a late celebration for mine, so it’s bound to be a laugh!!

Mike: We are always looking to have our roster DJs playing out because that is where we want them to be. As Iain mentioned, we have the XStatic event at the Venue in Long Eaton on the 24th of February where 75% of our Roster will be performing. We are also managing JP & Jukesy’s Deprivation Tour, which will happen this year throughout the UK. Here are some details on that: DJ’s confirmed so far are Andy Farley, Ian M, Defective Audio (DJ Set or Live), JP & Jukesy, Sam Hudson, Amp Attack, Funked Up DJS & Jimmy Dean plus supporting DJs from Breed Management.
