With the release of the new Tidy DJ's album "Bang Up For It" we tracked down Deano and Sam to find out what we can expect from this full fat rave journey through the harder styles of dance.
So guys, lets get straight to the point, are you ‘Bang Up for It’? what is this new album & concept all about?
Oh yes, more Bang Up for it than ever at the moment! This new BUFI album project has given us a breath of fresh air if we are honest - big tunes and feel good music aimed solely at the Dance floor! BUFI is not taking itself too seriously, it's all about having a good time and putting the fresh and fun vibes back out there to the masses, we’re pretty sure everyones going to Bang Up For It once they have heard the album! The album's mixed by us and Cally Gage vs Klubfiller, it’s a real party startin’ mix of upfront and classic Hard Dance tracks!
What kind of artists and music can we expect from your mix.
We have a real cross section of artists and music on our mix, ranging from the Commercial chart topper Sidney Samson to the faster sounds of Hardcore’s Hixxy, fresh hard dance tracks from Pero, Stimulant DJ's and Technikal with the occasional classic thrown in for good measure. It's just a good cross mix of music to get you dancing – every tracks been tried and tested by us on the dancefloors around the world!
Is the timing right for this? Is hard dance verging on greatness again? With all the new albums coming from the likes of Showtek, Tidy, BK & Anne Savage’s new artist album as well as Scott Attrill’s artists albums combined with the big House labels such as CR2 commissioning Hard Dance remixes of chart sensation Sidney Samson, does the buzz looks like it is growing rapidly once again?
Yes the timing couldn’t be better, there is a real sense of us moving forwards with stuff at the moment with people from other genres starting to take serious note of Hard Dance genre again, so hopefully this can add to the mix and help push the sound back out the masses - BUFI is certainly accessible which can only be a good thing, time will tell.
Do you guys have any special tracks you have been working on for the album.
We teamed up with Klubfiller for an exclusive cover version of the recent chart topper ‘When Love Takes Over’ by David Guetta. It’s a real peak time effort that’s defo one for the ladies to get on down to. It’s only available on this album and has been a massive track in our sets lately. There is also exclusive music from Cally & Klubfiller with their take on the House anthem ‘Leave The World Behind’ and Klubfillers solo cover of Timberlands ‘Apologize’
The artwork on the album looks ace, very bright & in-yer-face, where did the ideas for that come from & how was it developed?
We wanted the album concept to grasp the fun side of the genre, and we felt this ‘Cartoon’ route really grabs that late 90’s/early 2000’s vibe when club music in general was at its most exciting. It doesn’t take its self too seriously and has that appeal to the younger generation who are increasingly getting into the music. Everyone involved in the project remembers walking into HMV when they where younger and being drawn in by the bright and vibrant early Hard House and Hardcore albums, this projects aimed at re-creating that for the next generation!
What DJ’s have been doing it for you guys lately, do you get the chance to hear many?
To be honest we don’t get much of chance to hear many DJ's when we are out, but aside from Cally & Klubfiller who are both bringing something fresh to the table you can't beat a bit of Ben Stevens for a heads down Hard house bosh up - the mans got bear skills!
Who is the bigger, badder party animal of you too and do give us an example or two.
Well, I think it used to be me (Sam), many a time we have gone to a gig and I have gone AWOL waking up on someone’s carpet with Deano ringing me having just woke up at the hotel. We once got a little bit carried away after a gig with a few other DJ's and locked a cleaner in a cupboard asking her to get her big toe out for a video camera! We where having a heated debate about who had the biggest toe in Hard Dance and it all got a bit out of hand.
I think Deano may be a bit more of party monster now though, he’s newly single so I think he’s making up for lost time!
what is the biggest track so far for you in 2010.
There have been a couple, the Technikal remix of our new track ‘Rescue Me’ has been going off, the new Stimulant DJ's releases on Tidy and Scott Attrill’s remix of Sidney Samson’s new single ‘Shut Up & Let it Go’ have all been doing the damage! A very promising start to the new year!
what does the future hold for Sam & Deano, how is the rest of the year shaping up?
All looks good at the moment thanks, we are very proud to be a part of BUFI and are going to be pushing that over the coming months. We have just launched our brand new F.U.N live show which has had great reviews so we will be doing more Live Shows very soon. We are going on tour with Tidy as part of the 15th Birthday Celebrations, that all kicks off on May 1st at the Custard Factory in Birmingham. We have a few remixes and new releases lined up on Tidy, AWsum and the brand new Rave On Recordings, so all in all we are keeping ourselves pretty busy! Fun times ahead.
