Here we are then with the second release on the new ‘Riot Records’ imprint.
This track is an oldie by BK and Bob Burns, originally released on Friction Burns Records back around ‘97, just around the time I began getting into the whole clubbing scene, so I was quite excited when I heard about this release! BK loads it up once again to give the track a 2004 re-vamp and, as you would expect, the production is spot on as with any BK release. The track sounds a lot more mature than the original, showing that the Hard Dance sound has really developed over these past few years. Cool quirky percussion, techy loops, and a wicked bass line make this track really motor along nicely from the word go. The breakdown maintains much of the same vibe as the original as well as the unforgettable vocal ‘Come on baby, let’s stick together’. The build up out of the breakdown is awesome and works a treat on the dance floor! A cool synth is brought in as the track reaches its crescendo, and whallop! We’re back in business! Excellent stuff. Although this side is wicked, for me it’s all about the flip and Andy Farley’s remix. At a time when a lot of people seem to be a bit fed up with the ‘Hard House’ sound and really steering towards the techno side of things, along comes Mr Farley and restores everybody’s faith in Hard Dance with what can only be described as a truly monstrous mix! He manages to combine this whole ‘Hard House/Techno’ crossover thing perfectly (Which I absolute love by the way!) as well as making it groovier than James Brown on Speed! Slowing the BPM down, and throwing in some wicked, chunky techno loops really enforces that funky vibe that Andy is renowned for. A funky ass bass line, cheeky vocal stabs and hi-hats coming in and out all over the place, the arrangement is really exciting. The breakdown makes good use of the vocal with loads of delay on it along with some cool but eerie sound effects. He plumps for a short breakdown before the track really takes off! All in all something for everyone, weather you fancy a funky groover or a hard house monster, this record has ‘em both and will be in my bag for a very long time! In my opinion this is Andy’s finest hour, it just sums up everything that I love about this style of music. The groove and the sheer energy, I dare you to try not dancing to this in a club! Nice one to the Riot crew, may you live long and prosper! Go get it peeps!
