» Fight Yourself

Reviewed by Matt Smallwood / Submitted 03-02-05 20:47

Label: Tidy - Online purchase only
Format: 12" Vinyl
Genre: Trance/Hard Trance

Here we have the first ‘online only’ release for March from Tidy, and a third outing from Wid & Ben. The track is called ‘Fight yourself’ and comes with a Colin Barratt remix. The original is quite a trancey affair, with some great sound effects and lush key changes that are sure to do some serious damage on the trancier floors. The break down is really cool with the boys using a nice phat synth along with staggered kicks and some nice post production too, as well as those lush key changes that will make every hair on your body stand on end! The final build up is immense to say the least, and when the track eventually kicks back in, I can imagine total Trance floor devastation! Good work lads!
Thumbs up
Onto the flip and the legend that is Mr Colin Barratt is on remix duties. I’ve always said that even though I’m not a mahoosive fan of Trance, I always find Colin’s trancier sound to be really accessible and playable in my sets with this remix being a good example. He’s kept the same pleasantries from the original, the key changes and the wicked pads in the breakdown, but the whole track just has an all round tougher feel. He’s used a similar synth and pattern but has chopped it up, again giving a tougher, harder feel. The breakdown is a little shorter which works well, and after the breakdown we’re treated to some of Colin’s renowned post production skills, with repeated beats and flange effects that help keep the mixing exciting on the way out. All in all a great release, weather you’re after a quality piece of UK trance, or a tougher ‘Hard Dance’ sound, this has them both! Everyone’s happy! Enjoy Thumbs up
