One of the biggest (and most popular) tunes from Cosmic Gate's recent third artist album 'Earth Mover' gets a well-deserved full release on the Maelstrom imprint, and there's one mix in particular which you absolutely must hunt down.
Perhaps best known for their gargantuan club smash 'Fire Wire', the Cosmic Gate boys (or Claus Terhoeven & Stefan Bossems to their mothers) have been two of the busiest men in Trance, racking up countless anthems and some massive remixes to their name. At first listen, 'Analog Feel' comes across a bit, well, samey. It's fairly standard minimalish tech-trance by numbers with offbeat piano stabs and a rasping, subby bassline stealing the show. It builds and drops in all of the right places and all sounds very polished, but when all is said and done you can't help but think there is more filler than killer here.
But then you flip it over, and well, audio hell breaks loose. Dutch megastars Rank 1 turn in one of the best remixes of their career, and you really would be insane to not check this out. Make no mistake, it's not a big room anthem. In fact, it's minimal. Very minimal. But the beauty of this is not in the euphoria it creates, but in the groove. Taking the piano stabs from the original and twisting them to buggery, the Dutch duo craft up a series of drums and synths designed to get your feet moving without stopping. Throw in some trademark Rank 1 tension strings and a couple of dancefloor-devestating drops and you have the perfect recipe to really move your dancefloors.
A rather pedestrian third mix comes from Live Cut on the electro tip which is very cool indeed, but grossly overshadowed by Rank 1's awesome interpretation.
Hunt down Rank 1's remix immediately and you'll find your happy place.
